AI Safety ClockiIMD AI Safety ClockThe IMD AI Safety Clock (IMD Business School, Switzerland) works like the Doomsday Clock: the closer to midnight, the closer uncontrolled AI is judged to be. It scores three vectors — AI sophistication, autonomy (how independently systems act), and real-world execution (ability to act physically or tactically) — and moves the hands when those change. Midnight = AI acting beyond human control. Read automatically from the IMD page every 30 minutes.auto-read from imd.org · as of Sep 6 23:01 (28 min ago)www.imd.org ↗

Making Sense of the Shift

Artificial intelligence is transforming our world, but you shouldn't need a degree in computer science to understand where it is heading.

Every leap brought real tools — and a cloud of hype. This one is no different.

I wrote my first computer programs onto punchcards more than forty years ago. Since then, I have built software, run an IT business, and learned, struggled with, and ultimately mastered as much of the shifts this industry has thrown at me—from mainframes and personal computers to the internet and cloud computing. Over the years I have developed cutting-edge and bleeding-edge applications for companies from the small business up to billion-dollar organizations, including managing tools for credentialing and regulatory work.

Every time technology takes a major leap forward, two things happen at once: real, powerful tools emerge that can change our lives, and an enormous cloud of hype appears alongside them. Vendors make impossible promises, headlines preach panic or miracles, and everyday people are left wondering what is actually real.

This private site was built to cut through that noise.

You won't find impenetrable tech jargon, academic equations, or corporate sales pitches here. Instead, these dispatches translate the fast-moving world of AI into clear, honest, and practical language. The goal is simple: to help thoughtful people understand what is changing, what these tools actually do, and what the future looks like—from someone who has spent a lifetime watching how machines evolve.
